Mir wird am Beispiel Musik immer Folgendes klar:

Musik ist einer der wichtigsten Bestandteile unserer Kultur, wir hören täglich die neuesten Songs oder alte Klassiker im Radio, über den iPod, bei Last.fm oder versorgen uns mit Downloads von iTunes oder Soundcloud. Ich glaube, dass sich hier in kürzester Zeit etwas Neues auftun wird. Vorstellbar ist für mich, die Musik nicht mehr auf der Festplatte abzuspeichern, sondern ALWAYS ON zu beziehen. Statt MP3s und einzelnen Dateien, die per Online-Shopping auf die Festplatte heruntergeladen werden, glaube ich fest an eine monatliche Flatrate für sämtliche Musikinhalte, die man in seinem Leben hören kann, eine “Lifetime-Music-Flat”. Die Vorzüge des neuen Systems wären die, dass ich keine lokalen Dateien mehr bräuchte, wenn ich auf Reisen bin, auch die Einschränkungen bei meinem iPod würden entfallen.

Ideen und Umsetzungen für Flatrates gibt es heute schon genug: Videotheken-Flatrate, Musik-Flatrate, Klingelton-Flatrate, Bandbreiten-Flatrate – diese Systeme wären ohne großen Aufwand auch auf andere Bereiche ausdehnbar. Für die Bild- und Tonträger käme sogar eine “Content-Flatrate”, auch Kultur-Flatrate, in Betracht, die die Nutzung sämtlicher Ton- und Bildträger legal abdecken und trotzdem die Urheberrechte der Künstler wahren würde. Es bleibt zu diskutieren, ob diese sich auf einen Staat, die Europäische Union oder die ganze Welt anwenden ließe. Diese Entwicklungen wären auch deshalb interessant, weil sie uns unter Umständen von den riesigen Datenmengen auf unseren Festplatten befreien würden – wir hätte ja alle unsere Lieblingslieder immer online verfügbar; zudem würde die Umwelt durch weniger Datenträger weniger belastet.
